A pragmatic approach to stroke care
Pre-conference symposium reminds attendees that education and repetition are paramount.

Tuesday’s pre-conference symposium, “Stroke in Practice,” is exactly what it sounds like. Expert clinician-educators will share practical pearls on a range of stroke-related subjects.
9 a.m.-5 p.m. | Tuesday, Feb. 3 | Room 208-210
Program chair Mollie McDermott, MD, MS, said the first-hand insights will deepen attendee understanding of everyday stroke practice.
“Our audience members will leave with immediately actionable learning points to take back to their home institutions,” said McDermott, who is an associate professor of neurology at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Exclusive symposium topics include:
- Carotid stenosis
- Common vascular malformations
- Arterial dissection management
- Medium vessel occlusion stroke (MeVO)
- Anticoagulation after stroke
- Intercerebral hemorrhage (ICH)
- Patent foramen ovale (PFO)
- Extended window tPA
Presenters will also share tips and tricks for stroke patient management like the best positioning of the head during and after stroke and recommendations for reading CT perfusions. McDermott said attendees can expect time for questions and answers with the experts as well as opportunities to engage in lively debate.
“Following the event, I hope each attendee will feel more confident about handling some of the ‘gray area’ cases that we all encounter in stroke care,” she said.
